The weather is getting nicer and Coloradoans are desperate to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Colorado is home to countless opportunities for outdoor activities. Among those are amazing outdoor concert venues. While Red Rocks may be one of, if not the most, popular amphitheater in the country, Colorado is also home to several other stunning outdoor locations for enjoying music. The Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Northern Colorado is one of the best in the state.
The Mishawaka Amphitheatre is an incredibly inimitable outdoor concert venue located along the banks of the Poudre River in the impressive Poudre Canyon in Bellvue. “The Mish” features a single-stage theater, along with a restaurant, bar, and The SpokesBuzz Lounge, which was previously known as the Dancehall. Camping was once allowed onsite, but it is no longer permitted due to safety concerns. The Amphitheatre is located along the well-travelled Poudre Canyon Highway. Proximity to a road that carries the potential for steady traffic can create a greater risk of injury for anyone arriving or leaving the concert. There are, however, a wide variety of nearby camping options in the Poudre Canyon.
The restaurant, bar, and SpokesBuzz Lounge are open year round. The Amphitheatre is only open for the summer season, which extends from late May to late September, with a policy that events will be held rain or shine. Concerts are still held on Fridays and Saturdays at Mishawaka during the winter season in The SpokesBuzz Lounge.
The Mish’s intimate natural setting along the Poudre River enhances the diverse styles of music celebrated on its rustic stage. Its stage has the feel of an old log cabin set in the forest and is raised high to accommodate views from all areas. The Amphitheatre is an open space with no fixed seating that can hold up to 752 people. Inside The SpokesBuzz Lounge, 154 people can be accommodated. Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs; however, they must remain at the back of the venue. The restaurant and bar also offer a very relaxed setting with the Poudre river flowing alongside.
Many locals agree that The Mish is one of the best places to enjoy music outside. The Mishawaka is currently owned by the founder of SpokesBuzz, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of music and culture. They are working to revitalize the venue in order to keep its authenticity and unique character while working to extend featured acts, live theater, classical music, and cultural performances. The Mishawaka summer lineup includes 18 concert dates with diverse acts and performers.
If you frequently attend concerts, you’re probably familiar with various “rules of the house.” The Mish has a few you might not be aware of, but they are important to note before attending a concert. Although the venue is outdoors, outside food and drinks are not allowed. As for parking, there is a shuttle available that provides transportation from Colorado State University or Transfort transit station in Old Town Fort Collins for a $15 fee if reserved ahead of time or $20 if purchased on standby. Parking on site is limited and costs $40 per vehicle.
