Five Best Walking Trails in Fort Collins

With loads of sunshine and mild weather even in winter months, the trails in Fort Collins are perfect for running, walking, in-line skating, or even a bike ride. The beautiful scenery provides an urban oasis for those out for a relaxing stroll or for a commuter heading home on their bike. While there are several trails in Fort Collins to enjoy, following are five of the best trails for enjoying the outdoors in this beautiful city.

  1. The Poudre Trail winds its way along the Poudre River for 10.10 miles. It runs between the Overland Trail at Lyons Park and the Environmental Learning Center on East Drake. Expansion of this trail east toward I-25 is expected over the next several years.
  2. The Spring Creek Trail is 6.93 miles long and follows Spring Creek through several parks in Fort Collins. It extends from West Drake Road and joins Spring Creek and the Poudre River at the Poudre Trail and goes all the way to Spring Canyon Community Park and the Pineridget Natural Area.
  3. The Mason Trail is a 3.5 mile trail located in central Fort Collins and serves as a convenient commuter route. It stretches from Prospect Road south to Harmony Road and runs adjacent to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad.
  4. The Foothills Trail is a 6.8 mile unpaved trail that travels along the foothills parallel to Horsetooth Reservoir from Dixon Reservoir at Pineridge Natural Area.
  5. The Fossil Creek Trail follows the west side of the Union Pacific Railroad south from Edora Park to north of Harmony Road via Golden Meadows.

The trails are maintained year-round and are open 5:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.
